Polycarbonate (PC) is an amorphous polymer containing carbonate groups in its chemical structure that allow it to be strong, durable, scratch resistant and impact resistant, demonstrating many beneficial optical properties such as transparency. Polycarbonate is very tough at low temperatures, allowing it to be used in many challenging applications, such as safety helmets.

Americhem has extensive experience compounding PC polycarbonate with pigments for colors — both transparent and opaque as well as IR and other performance lens requirements. Americhem also compounds polycarbonate with fillers and reinforcements for achieving effects such as improved wear resistance, lower friction, improved tensile and flex modulus, better electrical conductivity and greater electrostatic discharge protection — all with smaller minimum order quantities than most of the industry.
